Press Release Body = Alissa Sheley Acrylic on Plexiglass I began working on
plexiglass during my first year at Washburn. One particularly broke day, I had the
overwhelming urge to paint but no canvas to work on and no money to buy more. So I
rummaged through a storage closet and found an old piece of plexiglass. I had no
idea if it would work, but it seemed like a paintable surface so I decided to give
it a shot. Little did I realize at the time, I was taking my first steps into my
career as an artist. Since that first day, I have spent years experimenting with
different techniques of paint application and finishing methods. I have taught
myself through trial and error what would work on this uncommon surface and what
would not. I am still working on developing new techniques to use on the plexiglass,
at this point it feels like the sky is the limit. One of my favorite aspects of
painting on plexiglass is the way that I am really able to focus on the elements of
art that I enjoy most: vivid color, bold texture, and flowing movement. The negative
space creates dimension that I was not able to achieve when painting on traditional
canvas. This combination of these elements has taken my artwork to a whole new
level. http://www.a-sheley.com alissa@a-sheley.com
